BLIA Terms of Service

EFFECTIVE: 15 OCTOBER 2026

01Acceptance

By calling BLIA's MCP server, using our API, using the consumer app (including as a founding-cohort household), or using bliahub.com, you agree to these terms. If you integrate BLIA for an organization, or you are an AI agent acting for a user, "you" means that organization or the agent's operator.

02The service

BLIA builds three things as one product. First, a source-quoted, dated catalogue of Canadian financial-institution product terms. Second, a consumer app that checks statements against that catalogue. Third, a free, read-only tool, the MCP server, so AI assistants can answer banking questions correctly. BLIA is not a bank. BLIA is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or acting on behalf of any institution it describes.

Catalogue coverage is BMO, Scotiabank, CIBC, RBC and TD, chequing accounts — the full Big Five. Coverage is intended to grow next to credit unions and digital-first banks, then to other account types. After that, coverage is intended to grow beyond Canada, starting with the EU, with no set timeline. These terms apply to the service regardless of its coverage at a given time.

03The MCP server, specifically

Our MCP server offers five read-only tools: one that lists products in scope, one that returns the published terms for a specific product, one that compares products, one that lists recorded welcome offers, and one that lists account benefits. All are free, need no account or API key, and are rate-limited per connecting IP address. The server issues a session identifier when a client connects; a client that does not return it on later calls is still served. We expect the tool collection to grow alongside coverage.

04Free today, possibly paid tomorrow

The core lookup tools and the general consumer app are free. Free is not a limited-time trial. A separate paid tier can follow later for higher-volume or specialized use, with no pricing or date set yet, on separate terms. Examples can include higher-volume developer or enterprise API keys, a professional dashboard for financial advisors, or data-licensing arrangements for organizations. Nothing here commits us to a specific price or timeline for any of that, and none of it exists yet.

05Acceptable use

06Accuracy — read this before you rely on any value

We compile values from documents that financial institutions publish. We keep a version and a publication date for every snapshot. We do not guarantee that any value is accurate, complete, or still current. We do not claim that a published term matches an institution's actual practice at the moment you check. A term marked "not published" or "unresolved" means the value is not confirmed. Do not read this as zero, or as "no such fee."

Our plain-language summary of a bank's rule is our own paraphrase, not the institution's exact legal wording.

Free-tier responses carry values only. The free MCP tools return published values. A response does not include the source quotation, content hash, provenance tier, or corroboration status that BLIA holds for that entry. Do not represent a free-tier response as evidence of provenance. Those fields are reserved for a future paid tier.

Any figures we publish about our own founders' household (for example, statements reconciled or fees identified) describe that one household, over a stated historical period. These figures are not a projection or a guarantee of results for anyone else who uses the app.

07Not financial or legal advice, and we do not act on your behalf

BLIA gives you information and analysis, not financial, legal, tax, or professional advice. Do not make a decision with real financial consequences without checking directly with the institution. BLIA gives recommendations. Only you act. BLIA does not connect to your accounts with your credentials, and cannot move money or make a transaction for you, under any tier of the service.

08No warranty, and limits on our liability

The service is provided "as is," without guarantees of any kind. This applies especially before the public MCP endpoint and the general-availability consumer app launch. To the fullest extent the law of British Columbia, Canada allows, BLIA and its operator are not liable for indirect or consequential damages from your use of the service. Our total liability for any claim is capped at the amount you paid us for the service in the twelve months before the claim. For every tier BLIA currently offers, that amount is $0.

09Software license

The BLIA MCP server software is licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0. That license covers the software only. It does not extend to our catalogue data or to the consumer app.

10Third-party bank content

The fees, rates, and rules we state about a named institution come from that institution's own published disclosures. We identify the institution and the product by name, so you can verify any entry at its origin. We reproduce only what is needed to state a term accurately, and we do not republish an institution's disclosure documents in full.

Our compiled catalogue — the structuring, completeness tracking, and provenance record behind it — is our own work. It is not licensed for redistribution as a dataset.

Institution names, logos, and trade marks belong to their owners. BLIA uses an institution's name only to identify the products it describes. This is nominative use. It implies no affiliation, endorsement, or sponsorship, and BLIA claims none.

If you act for an institution and believe an entry is inaccurate or improperly presented, write to office@bliahub.com. BLIA will review it and correct what is wrong.

11Statements and other content you submit

You keep ownership of any statement or document you submit to the consumer app. You give BLIA a limited right to process the statement to deliver the service. BLIA extracts transactions and balances, checks them against our catalogue, and shows you the result. BLIA does not sell, license, or otherwise share your documents or the data extracted from them with anyone, including any bank named in our catalogue.

BLIA asks for statement uploads instead of your banking login, on purpose. This approach carries no password-sharing risk. It also matches the direction of Canadian banking regulation. The Consumer-Driven Banking Act (s.76(1)) moves institutions toward secure, tokenized data-sharing. BLIA's upload flow gives you a similar benefit today, before that infrastructure is ready everywhere.

12Changes to the service

BLIA can change the endpoint, rate limits, response format, app functionality, or what is covered. BLIA can discontinue any free tier. BLIA will give notice where reasonably possible. Rate limiting is automatic and based on request counts per connecting IP address; the current limits are 600 requests per minute and 5,000 per day, and can change.

13Suspension and termination

BLIA can suspend or block a caller or user who abuses the service, without prior notice, to protect the service for everyone else. Blocking of abusive callers is automatic and based on request counts per connecting IP address. BLIA keeps no per-attempt record of blocked calls, only per-minute counts.

14Our founding cohort

The consumer app begins with a small number of households invited directly into a founding cohort, Cohort Alpha, targeted for October 2026, ahead of general availability. Participation is by invitation only. Participation is not an offer to the general public. A separate, more specific agreement can govern participation for the household involved. BLIA can change or end this program at its discretion, without affecting these terms for any other part of the service.

15Four commitments

We make the following commitments to every user of the catalogue, the consumer app, and the MCP server, regardless of tier:

16Indemnification

You agree to defend BLIA and hold it harmless from claims, damages, or expenses that arise from your misuse of the service or your violation of these terms.

17Governing law and venue

These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia, Canada, and the federal laws of Canada that apply. Any dispute will be handled in the courts of British Columbia.

18Changes to these terms

BLIA will update the date at the top whenever these terms change. If you continue to use the service after a change, this means you accept the update.
